Week 1 - Arrival
Our Appaloosa filly arrived this week after a two-day journey from Girgarre to Manton, facilitated by Elisha and her team. The transport company reported that she travelled very well for her first long trip as a seven-month-old weanling. For the next leg of her journey to Bywong, we used an angled float. She required a little coaxing to get on, but once settled, she continued to travel smoothly. Initially, she will be on her own until her companion arrives, and we've opted to isolate her from the other horses for her comfort in a separate yard and stable. This allows us to establish a routine, including a worming schedule. For this round, we have chosen an Ivermectin-based worming paste to monitor her progress. In terms of feeding, she has been set up on lucerne hay twice daily, with a gradual introduction of Mitavite StudGro With Lucerne/Oaten Chaff in the morning and evening. We will observe how she adapts to this feeding regimen.
